Russia Visa for Estonian Citizens

Russia is one of the largest countries in the world, spanning from Scandinavia at its westernmost point all the way across the northern portion of the Asian continent. Along the way, the country is famous for not only its metropolises, which offer unique architecture and a wide variety of museums but also its incredible natural landscapes and diverse cultures outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

With so much to offer, it is no wonder that Russia remains a popular tourist destination for international travelers. However, before making the trip, it is important to remember that Estonian citizens wishing to visit must obtain a visa before traveling.

There are several types of visas that will allow Estonian passport holders to visit Russia. The majority of visas require a visit to a consulate or embassy within Estonia in order to obtain a specific visa. Thanks to a new electronic visa (or E-visa), there are now region-specific visas available to citizens from Estonia which do not require a visit to any government building as they can be applied for and granted entirely online. An additional bonus is that they typically take around four days to be approved. Despite the typical quick turnaround, it is important to apply for an eVisa with plenty of time before arriving in Russia.

eVisa Application Requirements

Alongside the requirements listed above for Estonian passport holders, each traveler will need to submit an application form. Additionally, travelers will need to upload proof of health insurance for the entire time they will be in Russia.

Both the photograph and proof of insurance coverage can be uploaded at a later stage in the application.

Application Waiting Times

In order to avoid issues, it is recommended that travelers submit their application with as much advance as possible. The typical processing time for a Russian eVisa is two to four business days. In some cases — especially when the application is incomplete and/ or additional documents are required — it can take longer.
