Russian eVisa for Indian Citizens

Visa Application Form

Indian citizens intending to travel to the Russian Federation will need to apply for and obtain a visa to enter the Russian country. There are two different types of visas that an Indian citizen can apply for depending on which part of Russia they will be visiting.

If the traveler intends to visit the Far East regions of Russia, they will have to acquire a special type of visa called the Russian eVisa for the Far East which is relatively easy to obtain. Whereas, for all other areas, travelers will have to obtain a regular Russia tourist visa which currently requires a visit to the Russian embassy/consulate to submit the paperwork.

Do Indian Citizens Need a Visa for Russia?

Indian citizens can apply for and obtain a tourist visa to Russia. However, before beginning the application process it is important to check the different types of visas that are offered by the Russian Federation. Travelers can select from different visa types depending on the specific reason for which they are visiting the country. It is also important to check for any exemptions associated with a particular visa type as that may require a different type of travel document to be used.

It is worth noting that, India is one of 18 countries whose citizens are allowed to apply for a Russian eVisa for the Far East visa online. This visa is relatively easy to obtain as it only requires filling out an online application without having to visit a Russian embassy or consulate. This visa allows travelers to visit places like:

  • Primorsky Krai
  • Kamchatka Krai
  • Sakhalin Oblast
  • Amur Oblast
  • Khabarovsk Krai
  • Chukotka Autonomous Okrug
  • Zabaykalsky Krai
  • Buryatia

Russia eVisa for Indian Travelers

In order to apply for a tourist visa for Russia, travelers will need to begin the application process by creating a travel itinerary as this will allow them to request a tourist invitation letter. The traveler will need to create a full itinerary showing bookings for tours, shows, and festivals etc. within Russia that they plan to attend.

This list will then have to be submitted as evidence of their intent to travel as a tourist to the country. Once the traveler has received the tourist invitation, he/she will have to bring a printed copy with them to the Russian embassy or consulate along with other supporting documents related to their trip. All these documents will need to be submitted together in order to be granted a Russian tourist visa.

Instead, if the traveler plans to visit the Far East countries, he/she can apply for the Russian eVisa for the Far East online. The Far East visa does not require the traveler to submit a tourist invitation or a travel itinerary in order to have the visa approved. The traveler can also apply for the Far East visa from as early as 20 days and as late as 4 days before their intended date of travel to the region. However, once the visa has been issued, the validity of the visa and the permitted length of stay cannot be changed.

Russia Visa Requirements from India

In order to submit a completed package for a regular Russian tourist visa, travelers will need to present the following requirements at the Russian embassy/consulate:

  • A passport with a validity of up to 6 months from the date of application and at least 2 blank pages for entry/exit stamps
  • A printed and signed tourist invitation
  • A completed Russian tourist visa application
  • A recent passport-style color photograph with 3.5 x 4.5 cm dimensions
  • Valid health insurance that covers the entire duration of the traveler’s stay in Russia
  • Evidence of accommodations of each night of stay in Russia
  • Supporting documents for the travel itinerary (tour/festival/show tickets etc.)

Once the package has been submitted at the Russian consulate/embassy, it can take up to 3 business days for it to be processed. In some instances, it can take longer depending on any additional processing that may be required on the application.

Once the visa has been granted, it will either allow for a single-entry or double-entry into Russia and a maximum stay of up to 30 days in the country.
